It's a bit of a departure from what regular readers of the Ukulele Blog will have come to expect.
Today I'm sharing a few more photos from World War II. These ones are pretty grisly, so please be warned.
The photos below document the gruesome fall of Benito Mussolini and contain graphic images of his dead body and the dead bodies of those in his Government. Please stop reading now if this will upset you.
I find these all the more poignant given recent events in Libya with the death of Muammar Gaddafi.
All photos were taken on the 29th of April 1945 in Milan. Anticipating his impending defeat, Benito Mussolini had attempted to escape to the safe-haven of Switzerland. Only he was intercepted and killed by the Italian Resistance movement.
His body was later transported to Milan along with the bodies of his girlfriend Clara Petacci and his Cabinet where they were hung outside a local petrol station.
