Outlaw by King Uke & Pancho (2013)

The time is finally here. I can now reveal the second song in my collaboration with Daniele "El Pancho" Bianchini! Hurrah!

The Mystery of King Uke & El Pancho

For those stumbling across this for the first time, I’ll remind you that Daniele and I have decided to change the world by recording an EP. The challenge has been that I am in the UK and Pancho is in Italy. No problem! Using the power of the internet, there are no barriers of geography or language! We are one!

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (1966)

It was Bob Dorough who famously asserted the magical properties of the number 3. He wrote a song about it that featured on the pilot episode of American kids programme Schoolhouse Rock. Here's what he had to say:
"The past and the present and the future
Faith and hope and charity
The heart and the brain and the body
...give you three as a magic number"
3 mysteries to ponder!

What he fails to mention is the most famous 3 of all time... The Good, the Bad and the Ugly... or as our Italian brothers refer to it...  Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo. Surely Bob was a fan of Spaghetti Westerns? How can this possibly have slipped him by? For now this will have to remain a mystery.

Troll Hunter (2012)

In Scandinavian folklore there is an enduring myth of dangerous beings who live out in the wilds. Some believe them to be Spirits of the Dead; Others call them Lords of Nature. They go by many names. I am of course talking about Trolls.

What I hadn't realised until this week was that they are real! Yep! You heard me right!

A Taste of Bruges

I was lucky enough to get some time off this week and even luckier that I got to spend it with my family on a ferry trip across to Bruges. What a busy couple of days. We've had highs and lows and as always I was busy snapping away, getting a few memories to take home with me. Here you go... enjoy...

Avida Dollars - Salvador Dali
In 1939, André Breton coined the derogatory
nickname "Avida Dollars", an anagram
for "Salvador Dalí", and a phonetic rendering
of the French avide à dollars, which
may be translated as "eager for dollars"

Bagman Ukes

There are certain people out there who deserve special mention for just doing what they do. In today's post I'm going to share some photos from my neighbour's garage. For the purposes of this post, let's call my neighbour Bagman. Read on and see if you can figure out why ;-)

Bagman was the person that first inspired me to have a go at building instruments. Here is a collection of some of the wonderful things he's built...

He's my Brother! - King Uke

I'm feeling a bit rebellious today. Just like Grant Morrison... I want to start a revolution!

This post is a celebration of all the good there is in the world and a poke in the eye to all the bad. Money doesn't make the world go round... people do. To all my brothers and sisters who are doing amazing things with virtually nothing.... I salute you!

Knife by King Uke & Pancho (2013)

About a month ago I hinted at a possible musical collaboration with my favourite Roman... Daniele "Pancho" Bianchini of Pancho & Los Dorados Band. This is the same Pancho that I wrote about last year after he released an EP called Appunti di Viaggio ("Travel Notes").

The Invisibles: Say you want a revolution (1996)

I have a fantastic track record of recommendations from the Clifton-Browns. Angry single-handedly opened my eyes to the possibilities of Graphic Novels when he put me onto Alan Moore's monumentally distressing From Hell. Mrs C-B showed me that Manchester was still alive with Conrad Williams' wonderfully dark book One. Next up is another Angry recommendation:.

Warning: This post is a little bit random...

Ukulele Kung Fu

I've wanted to do a post on ukulele chords for a while now. A couple of key things have put me off doing it. Firstly: It’s such a dry, boring topic. Secondly: everyone on the internet has covered it in some way or other. Thirdly: I’m no expert; I've never had a music lesson in my life and my music theory is sketchy to say the least. A lot of the time I don't even know the names of the chords I’m playing. :-D Fourthly: It's a pain in the arse to pull together the diagrams. Finally: What do I know anyway?

A Taste of Tophill Low

Here's my first "Taste of" for the New Year. Desperate to get out of the house, I took the family for a stroll around Tophill Low Nature Reserve today. It was sunny, but bloody freezing! I got quite a few photos to share with you... Enjoy...

King Uke Doll Set

So it turns out that it's my birthday today! Look at the present my daughter E-Uke gave me! It's my very own King Uke Doll Set! Ha ha... BRILLIANT! A lot of work has gone into this. I love it! Check out the photos. And remember... this is not available in stores...
